An Open Letter to Georgia State Representative Pedro Marin From an Eco-Force Member

Dear State Representative Pedro Marin,

Hello my name is Miles C. Ezeilo. I’m 9 years old, and I go to Brookwood Elementary School. At Brookwood Elementary I am the Treasurer for a club there called Eco-Force. I am writing to express my concerns about the use of plastic bags. We all know plastic bags are bad for the environment right? Yet some people are still choosing plastic bags over the reusable bags. It drives me crazy! So much that I made a plan to stop it.

It’s as simple as this: Start charging people for plastic bags! Which if you add it all up, that will be a lot of money that can be used for parks and trails. I was thinking about charging about 25cents per bag. If you charge lower, people will still choose plastic bags. But if you charge too high, people might not want to go to the supermarket anymore. So 25cents per bag is a good amount.

Please write me a back and tell me how you plan to end the use of plastic bags in Georgia.
Thank you!

  1. What a terrific idea, Miles. I'm proud of you for taking the initiative to make a change for our environment. I hope this lawmaker is as smart as you and is paying attention to this epidemic. It seems that this should be easy enough to do. Or, maybe these stores could be kind enough to reward those of us who take our groceries home in reusable bags. Right now, it feels thankless, but I think the Earth is grateful.

Keep writing, my love--and fighting for justice!

  2. That is a great idea Miles: charge for the bags and see how many people remember to bring their reusables.

    Keep up your excellent work!

  3. Hi Miles, its Chidi.

I think it is a good idea to charge people for the plastis bags. When it is a success maybe they will give you money and you can split it with me.

You get 10% and I get 90% isn't that fair?

Well see you at school. Don't forget to bring the money to school when its a success. BYE. I mean it don't forget, I'm short and I need some money now.

Hope your {my} bright idea works out.
